ecu.test Linux GUI

ecu.test provides a user interface for the languages English, German, Chinese and Japanese. At least one of these languages must be installed on the system. System languages can be installed and activated in Ubuntu either via Settings ‣ System ‣ Region & Language ‣ Your Account ‣ Language or via the locale-gen command in the terminal.

Example

On Ubuntu, all supported language environments are installed using the following script.

# update package index
sudo apt update

# install locales package if not yet installed
sudo apt install locales

# activate and generate additional locales
sudo locale-gen en_US.UTF-8 de_DE.UTF-8 zh_CN.UTF-8 ja_JP.UTF-8

# optionally: set language as default system language
sudo update-locale LANG=en_US.UTF-8

Notes

Modal dialogs

Moving modal dialogs (e.g., the Properties window) causes the ecu.test window to be reduced in size. The reason is a default setting of the GNOME window manager “Mutter” on Ubuntu and can be changed as follows:

gsettings set org.gnome.mutter attach-modal-dialogs false
Menu icons

No menu icons are shown. This is due to the default GNOME desktop environment on Ubuntu, which does not support menu icons.
