License Manager¶
A tool to manage licenses is provided together with ecu.test for example for the floating license mode. When using a dongle, the program is not required.
Info
Under Linux, there are some differences compared to Windows. For more information, see License Server Setup on Linux.
With this tool it is possible to perform the following actions:
Configure license origin¶
In case the license server changed since the installation of ecu.test, it is possible to modify the path of the server or a local license file.
It is also possible to combine multiple pathes by separating them from each other using ;
(Windows) or : (Linux). If done so, the license check will try to receive a license from
each source from left to right one after another.
Here can be decided whether the settings are only for the active user or system-wide.
The settings change the environment variable TRACET_LICENSE. If the settings are changed for
the active user and system-wide at the same time, then the user settings are preferred. To
change the system-wide settings, the License Manager has to be started as administrator.
After the path was changed the details of the available licenses are shown in the table on the right side.
Request roaming license¶
Roaming licenses are temporarily limited licenses that enable ecu.test to be used without access on the license server.
Important
Roaming licenses are only available on Windows.
Such a license can be requested as long as you are connected to the network of the license server. You choose it from the list and determine the desired runtime.
The option to renew temporarily limited licenses automatically elongates the license by the specified runtime on every start of ecu.test if the license server is available.
If the automatic extension is enabled, but a roaming license is at ecu.test -Start not available (never applied before, expired, program has been updated), the Roaming license has to be applied again with the License Manager.
If the automatic extension is activated, a roaming license can also be automate requested with the following call:
license_manager.exe -c
Info
The roaming license is exclusively for this user. The number of available licenses on the license server will be reduced until the roaming license is expired or it was given back to the available pool of licenses.
If you use hardware dongles for licensing, roaming licenses are not necessary.
Return roaming license¶
A roaming license can be returned to the license server once you come back into the network of the license server. Elsewise it cannot be used by other users although you do not need it anymore.
Configure use of complementary modules¶
In case there are fewer licenses available for one or several complementary modules than for the basic software, there is the possibility to prevent usage of individual complementary modules, in order to free up these licenses for users who require the respective functionality.
In addition to the License Manager, this can be configured in installer as well as by means of the following environment variables (or. on Linux, license.ini entries):
- TRACET_NO_OPT_TRACE¶
trace.check (as a module for ecu.test; not the standalone product)
- TRACET_NO_OPT_DIAG¶
ecu.test diagnostics
- TRACET_NO_OPT_XCP¶
ecu.test calibration
- TRACET_NO_OPT_LAB¶
ecu.test lab
- TRACET_NO_OPT_TREX¶
trace.xplorer
Use is prevented if the respective environment variable is set to any non-empty value except “0”, and permitted if the variable is not set, or set to “0”.
In the same fashion, usage of the ecu.test lite license can be configured: If the environment
variable TRACET_ET_LITE is unset, empty, or set to “0”, only the usual full license is
used. If the variable is set to any other value, only the lite license is used.
User vs. system environment variables¶
On Windows systems, environment variables can be defined both system-wide and in the user account. In that case, the per-user setting overrides the system-wide preset. Only if the variable is not set at all in the user account, the system-wide preset is used.
The License Manager only edits environment variables in the user account. In order to set system-wide presets, please use standard Windows tools to make system-wide adjustments to the environment variables listed here.
Choices pertaining to licensing environment variables made during the installation of ecu.test are, depending on the type of the installation, either applied system-wide (“for all users”) or only for the user account under which the installation is performed.
Create license request¶
In case you do not have a license for ecu.test or if you cannot access your license server permanently, there is the possibility to request a license file.
Therefore please use the button on the bottom left edge of the dialog and send us an e-mail containing the shown content.
Unlock software¶
When you got the answer to your license request, please copy the content of the mail in the panel and push the button Unlock on the bottom left edge of the dialog.
Here you can choose whether the path to the license origin shall be replaced or extended.
