Local data¶
Local data are those that are either user-specific resp. computer-specific and hence are used across several workspaces or those, that solely save redundant information.
Info
The place holder %temp% in case of Windows paths and $TMPDIR in case of Linux paths follows the implementation of the Python function tempfile.gettempdir() and, hence, can lead to different paths for the temporary directory.
Info
For the following Linux environment variables fall back directories are defined if they are not set.

- File names:
ecu.test_out.log,tool_server_out.log- Storage location:
Windows
%temp%/ecu.test 2026.3/Linux
$XDG_CACHE_HOME/ecu.test 2026.3/- Purpose:
Stores messages of ecu.test and/or Tool Server. File size is limited to 2 MB, after that the oldest entries are deleted to make room for new messages. This function may be helpful particularly for debugging in case of unsupervised test execution.
With the help of the setting Copy log files to report folder the log files can automatically be adopted to the report directory at the end of the test execution.
- Format:
text files
Error logs¶
- File names:
ecu.test_err.log,tool_server_err.log- Storage location:
Windows
%temp%/ecu.test 2026.3/Linux
$XDG_CACHE_HOME/ecu.test 2026.3/- Purpose:
Stores error messages of ecu.test and/or Tool Server. File size is limited to 2 MB, after that the oldest entries are deleted to make room for new messages. It is needed for reporting messages to support.
With the help of the setting Copy log files to report folder the log files can automatically be adopted to the report directory at the end of the test execution.
- Format:

Toollib settings¶
- File name:
ToolLibs.ini- Storage location:
Windows
%programdata%/tracetronic/ecu.test 2026.3/Linux
$XDG_CONFIG_HOME/tracetronic/ecu.test 2026.3/- Purpose:
Stores standard values of the settings of remote-controlled interfaces that are displayed and adapted in the test bench configuration. The settings are valid only for the interfaces used on a given PC. In case of remote control via Tool Server the ToolLibs.ini has to be adapted to the PC in question. The available settings are described in more detail in the chapter General settings of Tool Server.
The file is created at the first start of ecu.test or Tool Server.
The (local)
ToolLibs.inican also be opened both from ecu.test and from Tool Server by the keyboard shortcut <Ctrl> + <F11>.Info
Should the active user not have writing permission in
%allusersprofile%, the fileToolLibs.iniis created under%localappdata%instead. If at a later time a file in%allusersprofile%is created by a user with write permission, that file takes precedence.
- Format:
ini file
Automatically downloaded reports from test.guide¶
- Storage location:
Windows
%temp%/Report Viewer/ReportCache/Linux

Configuration of license environment variables (Linux only)¶
- File name:
license.ini- Location:
Windows
not available
Linux
$XDG_CONFIG_HOME/tracetronic/- Purpose:
This optional file can be used to define environment variables that are relevant for the license system of ecu.test. Values set here override the corresponding system environment variables when ecu.test is started.
In the license.ini file, only values that are defined in the
[ecu.test]section are interpreted. An example is:[ecu.test] TRACET_LICENSE = 5053@my.licenseserver.local TRACET_RLM_ROAM = 14 TRACET_NO_OPT_TRACE = 1 TRACET_NO_OPT_DIAG = 0 TRACET_NO_OPT_XCP = 0 TRACET_NO_OPT_LAB = 0 TRACET_NO_OPT_TREX = 1Only license-related environment variables are allowed. All other entries are ignored.
Info
This file is used only on Linux. On Windows the License Manager can be used to configure the license environment variables.
