Protecting packages¶
Packages can be protected from manipulation and against unauthorized use in various ways.
A signature ensures that the package comes from the person or place whose signature it carries and has not been changed since the creation.
By ecu.test provided access restrictions ensure that unauthorized persons can run the test case but not acquire knowledge of the package content or can see the package content but not change it or make unprotected copies.
With the help of password protection it can be ensured that the package can only be opened by persons that know the assigned password.
Protecting packages¶
Creation of a protected package
Create a new package and save it under any desired name. Select the saved package in the context menu of the workspace explorer and right-click on it. Select Protect package in the context menu.
Enter a location in the opening dialog where the protected package shall be saved. When protecting packages a secure copy is saved. The unprotected original package remains unchanged on the spot.
Now you can choose if you want to protect the package against unauthorized access. For this select the option Access limitations. With the options No limit, Package only executable and Package not editable you can select the actions that shall be possible with the protected package. Additionally you can now enter a password. The ecu.test support will not be able to restore the protected package should you forget the password.
Furthermore you can choose whether or not you want to protect the package from manipulation. For this purpose you activate the option Signing. Should this option not be available you firstly have to create or import a signing key. In the field Signed by you enter your name, the name of your company/your department, the project name or any other description of your choice. Additionally you can enter a comment. Should the public part of the signing certificate already be available to the recipient of the protected package you can remove the check mark in front of Add certificate to the target directory.
Finally you confirm the dialog by clicking OK. Depending on the number and size of the packages the signing can take a few seconds up to a few minutes.
Opening of a protected package
Open the just protected package. Make sure to open the protected copy in the previously selected target directory and not the unprotected original that remained in your package directory.
If you have entered a password a dialog now opens for password entry. Enter the previously chosen password.
ecu.test now opens the package. If you have set only executable the package content is not visible. If you have set not editable you can see the package content but cannot modify it or save the package again.
