Establishing a connection

First it is necessary to establish a connection between the mobile device and the PC running ecu.test. These are the main options to do that:

  1. Same Wi-Fi network: Use the same Wi-Fi network for the mobile device and the PC (recommended; the network can for example be provided by a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot).

  2. Wi-Fi hotspot: Create a mobile hotspot with the mobile device and connect the PC to it (on smartphones you may disable mobile data to avoid additional costs. This option is only available on Android.)

  3. USB: Connect the mobile device and the PC via USB and enable “USB tethering”

  4. Bluetooth: Enable “Bluetooth tethering” on the mobile device

Info

As soon as at least one ecu.test drive client is connected to ecu.test, speech output during interactive tests is automatically deactivated in ecu.test. Speech output is then only active on the clients. If all clients close their connection to ecu.test (for example by closing the browser), speech output in ecu.test is activated automatically again.

Setup the web app

  1. Initially it is recommended to set a password. It can be defined in ecu.test under Options ‣ Settings ‣ Workspace Settings ‣ ecu.test drive.

  2. Thereafter the ecu.test drive server has to be started. To do so, click on the ecu.test drive logo in the status bar of ecu.test and select “Start server” in the dialog that opens. In case a Windows Security Alert is raised by the Windows Firewall, select “Allow access”. This may require administrative privileges.

  3. Now the web app can be opened on the mobile device. To do so, either enter the displayed URL or scan the QR code.

  4. In ecu.test, close the ecu.test drive dialog and open the packages and projects which shall be executed. The opened packages and projects are shown in the web app and can also be executed interactively there.

Used ports

  • HTTP: 26672

  • Websocket: 8999

If a dedicated port should be used for the HTTP server, it can be configured in ecu.test lab settings. The websocket port is currently not configurable.

System requirements

  1. Data connection between PC and mobile device

  2. Mobile OS: Android, version 4.4 or higher recommended

  3. Browser: Google Chrome version 57 or higher recommended

The web app can be used in most browsers, independent of the operating system. However, not all features may be supported.

Troubleshooting

  • The web app is accessible on the PC, but not on the mobile device.

    • Ensure that the PC and the mobile device are connected to the same network.

    • On the PC, ensure that the network is classified as “Work Network” or “Home Network” and not as “Public Network”.

    • On the PC, ensure that the firewall is configured so that incoming connections on TCP port 8999 and the configured HTTP port are accepted.

  • In the web app, the message “Can not establish connection to ecu.test” appears.

    • Ensure that the ecu.test drive server is started.

    • If the error message is still present, shut down ecu.test on the PC and the browser on the mobile device and restart ecu.test after two minutes.
