Reading and writing calibration quantities

In reading and writing calibration quantities which use supporting points (map and curve), the supporting points can only be seen and modified in ecu.test if they are available in the form of references to signals which are defined as well. If the supporting points exist in other forms no access is possible due to a restriction on the part of CANape, and the corresponding fields in the parameterization dialog of the test step will remain empty.

Info

Reading and recording the running value of a curve or map is currently not supported.

Reading and Recording of Measurements

ecu.test supports reading and recording of scalar, vector and matrix values as measurements. The individual elements of vectors and matrices can only be used if these elements are listed in the A2L file, such as scalar values in the form <Measurement name>_[<index>].

Note: We recommend setting MDF4 as the recording format in CANape. With MDF3, it can happen that the recording file is not sorted and therefore cannot be used in trace analysis.

Execution of Wake-Up Tests

If a control unit is tested which has not yet been activated at the beginning of the test execution, the start of the measurement can be controlled manually (tool property “Start of measurement” -> “Manual”). In the test case, it is possible to activate the terminals and to start the measurement by using the tool jobs InitializeHardware and StartMeasurement.

Note: Before accessing calibration variables, the device should be activated in CANape. Before

measurement variables are accessed, the measurement must also be started.

Advice regarding UseNAN

When accessing ECU values, receiving a special value (in CANape nan, in ecu.test ~NotPresent~) in case there is no value available yet, can be useful. This allows using Wait until true for the initial value, or checking whether the transfer of values from the ECU is actually happening.

For this purpose, the option Old behavior for read-bus/-measurement has to be set to False.

Sadly, this setting also causes bus signals to have a value only when the signal that is being read is contained in the most recently received message. Otherwise, the bus signal’s value is also given as nan or ~NotPresent~. For measurements from the ECU, this scenario does not occur.

If the option Old behavior for read-bus/-measurement is set to True, bus signals always provide the most recently received value. However, both for measurements from the ECU which have no value available yet, as well as for bus signals contained in a message that has not yet been received, the value 0 is provided instead of nan or ~NotPresent~.

Specifying the aquisition rate of mapped items

In the MEAS section of a Mapping-Items edit-dialog for CANape-Values you can set the aquisiton rate to polling#123 to set the polling to the desired value of 123 ms. The same is possible with the keyword cyclic. For more informations regarding Mapping-Items and their aquisition-rate please see here.

Configuration start with an active CANape process

In order for ecu.test to be able to control a manually started CANape instance, it must be put into ASAP3 mode by pressing the corresponding button Tools->ASAP3. The following restrictions apply:

  1. The CNA file cannot be specified in the test bench configuration.

  2. The TBC option Shut down on exit must be set to False.

These restrictions do not apply if the CANape instance was originally started by ecu.test (or with the -u command line option).
