Diagnostics(EDIABAS) tab

The Diagnostics(EDIABAS) tab is assigned the SGBD jobs of the control devices. Those jobs are read by means of the EDIABAS software. The corresponding control device description file is indicated after the control devices.

Execute job

To insert a new SGBD job that job must first be marked by a left click. Then a right-click brings up a context menu with the entry execute. Choosing that entry brings up the corresponding dialog window.

The dialog comprises three parts. In the folded upper part there is general information about the selected job as well as the mapping name (see Read / Write / Execute / Stimulus dialog). The central part serves for putting in parameters for the job, if any, and in the lower part the results can be saved or compared with expectations.

When a SGBD job is carried out so-called result datasets are returned from the control device. Those datasets contain the results of the SGBD job. A result dataset can include several results. An SGBD job mostly comprises several result datasets.

In some cases arguments can be attributed to SGBD jobs. Those arguments are listed in the upper part of the dialog. The arguments are characterized by a name, the type and a comment. The argument values to be attributed are entered into the column parameter The entry can be made as string (e.g. "0x FA 00 14"), number or a binary buffer bit string. The latter should be entered in hexadecimal notation without blanks or commas (0xA043FEB100) or in the form of a variable.

The result datasets are shown in the lower part of the dialog. There are static and dynamic ones. The static ones are always there. They are also shown in the control device description file (SGBD). The dynamic result datasets are available only under certain conditions, which is why they are not available in the control device description file and are not displayed in the dialog initially. If those dynamic datasets are to be used all the same, the option Report all reports all result datasets. You can also use the checkbox Save everything in to specify a variable, in which all result data sets are saved.

Another possibility is to read the dynamic result datasets automatically for a special configuration if the chosen SGBD job supports it. The arguments ARGUMENT_SPALTE and STATUS must exist. In the row ARGUMENT_SPALTE a parameter from ‘ARG’, ‘ID’, ‘LABEL’ has to be chosen. Put the according name, the id or the label of the job into the row STATUS. After this the dynamic results are added to the result list automatically.

To create results manually it is first necessary to find out their name (e.g. by marking Report all and looking for the name in the documentation). A right-click in the list of static datasets opens a context menu with the option Add result. If that option is chosen the following dialog appears:

The name of the dynamic dataset is entered into the dialog. Then the result type and a description can be entered. The dialog is confirmed by OK. Then the name of the result dataset will also appear in the list of static result datasets.

All result datasets displayed may be configured individually. If you click the box in front of a result it receives a tick (report result), and the corresponding properties show up on the right side. Here results can be saved in a variable or, if so desired, be compared with an expectation. More details can be found at Read / Write / Execute / Stimulus dialog.

All EDIABAS jobs have, by default, the result “SETS”. It is automatically added by ecu.test and contains the number of result sets received. By means of that it may be queried, for example, how many error memory entries there are. It has to be borne in mind that the number of results is bigger by one unit than the number of entries in the error memory because the first set contains the control information.

In addition to the tab Comparison there is the tab Options. Here it is determined if the result of ecu.test should be evaluated as SUCCESS once the expectation has been met

  • in at least one result dataset

  • in all result datasets

  • in a selected result dataset.

  • in the same result dataset as all other results with this option (grouping)

If the grouping option is selected, it is possible to enable that the group is to be highlighted in the report. This option can be activated in one or multiple results of a group. The group is only highlighted in the report, if all results with this option are SUCCESS in the same result dataset. This helps to quickly find a specific result dataset that fulfills a certain key criterion in a group.

Furthermore, it can be specified whether the type of result should be checked. A FAILED entry would appear, for example, if a string had been defined as type of return while the control device sends a number.

Above the result list there are options for documenting all results in the test report (without evaluation) and for specifying whether a response is expected from the control unit. Depending on this setting, the error message "No response from control unit" will be suppressed by ecu.test, and SUCCESS (if no response was expected) or NONE (if the response expectation is set to “optional”) will be emitted. Should there be a response event though no response is expected, the rating will be FAILED.

In addition, there is a possibility to insert Diagnostics(EDIABAS) test steps without having to select particular jobs. That can be looked up in chapter Generic test steps.
