Debugging tab

The Debugging tab shows available debugger variables for the control units defined in the test configuration. Via the context menu (by right click), steps to read and write variables can be inserted.

The nodes on the first level of the tree view represent the control units. A control unit contains an entry if there is a debugger port and an ELF file assigned in the test configuration. If no control unit exists, the debugger tab is not shown at all.

ELF files

Below the control unit node the ELF files as specified in the test configuration can be found. Each ELF node has a list of all containing modules and their variables.

Accessing debugger variables is possible for scalar values and one- or two-dimensional arrays with a simple element type. Structures, arrays with three or more dimensions, as well as arrays of structures can not be used directly. However, they are shown as hierarchies in the tree. So it is possible to access the child elements and use them in the test case.

Registers

For certain debugger tools the CPU registers are queried from the tool and can be accessed via read and write test steps. The registers are only displayed if the tool was started together with the configuration. They are not displayed if it is started manually in the configuration monitor or via a configuration change project step (though, in this case it is still possible to access registers using test steps that have been created beforehand).

Using debugging values

Debugging values can be used in a test case by doing drag-and-drop or using the context menu.

Read

If the option Read is chosen the basic dialog structure appears. By means of the checkbox Save in it is possible to save read values in a variable of the current package for later use.

In the lower part of the tab there is the possibility to define an expectation for the value to be read. The exact procedure is described in chapter Read / Write / Execute / Stimulus dialog.

Write

If this option is chosen by Write a dialog appears whose structure is similar to that of Read. In that dialog it is possible to specify values to be written.

Info

Using the shortcut <CTRL>-<F> it is possible to search and show particular variables.
