PortsΒΆ

SpecificsΒΆ

This tool adapter can connect to one or more remote systems via SSH to execute arbitrary commands and to transfer data.

Each connection is independent and is configured via a new port. The startup behavior can be defined there:

  • Automatically when the configuration is started or

  • manually in the test case using port jobs.

The other functions are also available as port jobs, so that multiple systems can be addressed independently in the test case.

Info

This tool connection only supports UTF-8 encoding.

Requirements for the SSH serverΒΆ

In order for ecu.test to be able to connect to the SSH server, the SSH server must fulfill one of the following requirements:

  • Support of SHA-512/rsa-sha2-512 as signature algorithm (RFC8332)

  • Support of the server-sig-algs extension (RFC8308)

Common SSH servers and their minimum version are listed below:

  • Dropbear >= 2020.79

  • OpenSSH >= 7.5

Supported SSH keysΒΆ

The term format in relation to an SSH key is not unique. It can have the following meanings:

  1. The file format of the SSH key: The format in which the key is stored.

  2. The format of the SSH key: The mathematical algorithm used to create and validate it.

File format of SSH keysΒΆ

ecu.test only supports the OpenSSH format as file format.

Info

It is possible to specify a key in .ppk format in ecu.test. However, this key cannot be read by ecu.test. An SSH agent must be running in which the .ppk key is loaded so that a connection can still be established.

Format of SSH keysΒΆ

The following SSH key formats are supported by ecu.test:

  • RSA

  • ECDSA

  • ed25519

Create SSH keysΒΆ

The command ssh-keygen can be used in a Linux terminal to create the key. The following prompts can be confirmed without further input by pressing Enter. The storage location of the key pair is displayed in the terminal. The private part of the key, which is named id_rsa by default, should be transferred to the test host and specified in the corresponding TBC option.

Alternatively, a key pair can be generated with PuTTYgen (section 8.2.1), the public part of which must also be stored here on the Linux computer (section 8.3). Please note that a private key without a passphrase (section 8.2.7) is required, as there is no option to enter the passphrase in ecu.test. The created key pair must then be converted into the OpenSSH format (section 8.2.12).
